New academic planner will help CALS communicate with stakeholders

Heidi Zoerb will join the CALS administrative team next week in the role of academic planner. In this newly created position, she will support efforts by Dean Jahn and others to communicate effectively with the college’s stakeholders, legislators, campus administration and college leaders.

A key part of her job will be to collect and analyze information about the college and its contexts that will inform critical discussions that relate to the college’s future. She will also be developing a system to effectively monitor the status of pending projects and issues and help identify new strategic partnerships.

Zoerb comes to the college from the UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies, where since 2005 she has served as Director of Marketing and Communications, overseeing a 10-person marketing and communication staff serving a number of continuing education programs across campus as well as returning adult student services.

Before that she was a senior director for marketing and research at the Wisconsin Alumni Association, where she worked on alumni relations with the School of Veterinary Medicine, School of Human Ecology and the School of Nursing.

Zoerb has deep roots in CALS. Four generations of Zoerbs earned degrees from CALS, and her grandfather is Art Pope, emeritus professor of animal sciences and Extension sheep specialist.

“I’m excited about the breadth of programs at the college and about the directions in which it is heading. I’m interested in what I see as the common element of the college — its focus on solving problems that are important to people. Issues like where our food comes from, the fuel we use, land use — all of these hit us right where we live.

Zoerb will assume her new position on June 11.
