Thomas Record, John D. Ferry professor of chemistry and biochemistry, is one of two UW-Madison faculty members elected this year as Fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is among 203 new fellows selected this year in recognition of their “preeminent contributions to their disciplines and to society at large.” Record, John D. Ferry professor of chemistry and biochemistry, investigates physical interactions of DNA and proteins in bacteria to understand the control of genetic information.
The academy, founded in 1780, is an independent policy research center that focuses on interdisciplinary studies and public policy research. Elected members are drawn from leaders in the sciences, humanities, arts, business, and public affairs. The new fellows will be inducted in a ceremony October 6, in Cambridge, Mass.
