Steve Deller receives NARSC Walter Isard Award for Scholarly Achievement
Steve Deller, professor of agricultural and applied economics, recently received the North American Regional Science Council (NARSC) Walter Isard Award for Scholarly Achievement. The award, given at the annual North American Conference of the Regional Science Association International, is named in honor of Professor Walter Isard, father of regional science, founder of the Regional Science Association, and a leading scholar in the worldwide regional science community. Established in 1994, the award pays tribute to scientists who have made significant theoretical and methodological contributions to the field of regional science throughout their careers.
Deller’s research interests include modeling community and small regional economies to better understand the changing dynamics of the economy; assessing the impact of those changes; and identifying local economic strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Given the proposals to fundamentally alter the system of public finance in Wisconsin, much of Deller’s current work focuses on the role of the public sector in community and regional economic growth.
