White letters on red background say Apply Now 2019 Global Health Grants

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Global Health Institute (GHI) is pleased to announce the application period is open for its 2019 grants and awards. This competitive grant program is designed to support global health efforts of faculty, staff and graduate students across campus, fostering the Wisconsin Idea locally and globally.

This year, the Institute will offer a new grant targeted specifically for health clinicians and again offer its Seed Grants for new projects that will secure future outside funding. The Institute also makes awards for graduate student research, visiting scholars, and faculty and staff travel.

Applications are closed for 2019 grants and awards.

“With the new clinical research award of $5,000 for one year, GHI continues to help jumpstart novel clinical programs,” says GHI Associate Director Jim Conway, who is also director of the School of Medicine and Public Health Office of Global Health. “These programs will help develop new approaches for equitable care in underserved populations.” The grants are open to UW-Madison and UW Health clinicians, graduate medical trainees and students in relevant programs who are exploring research topics that will enhance global health activities at UW-Madison and beyond.

This year also marks the return of GHI’s popular Seed Grants of up to $25,000 each. The grants, available to investigators and clinicians from across campus, support efforts to launch new global health research projects and make them competitive for sustained external funding. Previous Seed Grants have supported projects to identify neglected and novel human viruses in Sierra Leone, combat antimicrobial resistance on a global scale, enhance long-acting contraception in Ethiopia and enrich school lunches through a milk. The grants have gone to health clinicians, biochemists, engineers, women’s advocates and more.
