Dietram Scheufele named to Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professorship
Dietram Scheufele, professor of life sciences communication, is one of fifteen professors awarded a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professorship. The award recognizes distinguished scholarship as well as standout efforts in teaching and service and provides $75,000 in flexible funding over five years.
Scheufele’s most recent work focuses on the role that social media and other emerging modes of communication play in our society. He has published extensively on the public opinion dynamics surrounding controversial science, focusing particularly on the interplay among media, political actors and lay audiences.
Along with the Distinguished Achievement Professorships, the estate of professor, Senator and Regent William F. Vilas (1840-1908) also supports the Vilas Research Professorships. Both recognitions were awarded to two groups of extraordinary faculty last Monday, May 11.
